Study hacks and aids to get your learning back on track

So many people need to catch up on missed learning time. But it can be hard to find the motivation and focus for study or serious brain work, especially in the current climate. So here are five simple tips to help:

  • create a separate work area – somewhere quiet, where you have everything you need. And organise it to suit you.
  • have a simple and realistic work or study timetable/schedule/plan – then stick to it!
  • use a timer for your work periods, take breaks (little and often), get up, go out for a walk – it’s good thinking time.
  • cut down on screen time, all kinds of screen time.
  • sleep and eat well. Don’t try and cram more in or skip meals. You will learn better and absorb more if you are rested and fed.

If you need a boost, stay away from caffeine and energy drinks in the evening, they just mess up your sleep, but try these brain boosters:

Simple DIY Essential Oil Diffuser Tips

Everyone loves the subtle fragrance of essential oils round the house, don’t they? So here are some simple ways to have these wonderful aromas without being overwhelmed.

Simple tissue or fabric diffusion is when you place 3-4 drops of essential oil onto a tissue and place the tissue near you. As you move around, the aroma from the essential oils will waft through the air. This is great for public spaces where you can’t easily diffuse essential oils throughout the room. You can also place oils on fabrics such as a dressing gown or corner of a pillow, just avoid anywhere that would have direct contact to skin.  Though the aroma doesn’t last long, it’s a terrific boost.

Steam diffusion is created by boiling a pint of water on the hob, pouring it into a bowl and adding up to 6-8 drops of essential oil. The steam will heat the essentials oils causing them to diffuse by evaporation quickly into the room. Don’t put your face directly over the steam, but let it sit near you to enjoy the benefits. Add Forever Oil Defense for a winter holiday scent.

A DIY car diffuser can be made from a few drops of an essential oil on a wood clothes pin.  Clip onto an air vent for a refreshing boost. 

stick-on air freshener can be easily made with a small felt pad – the sort you would put under furniture to protect the floor. Place in rubbish bins, drawers, cars, or nappy bins…all the stinky places. The result is a portable air freshener you can stick anywhere. This is fantastic for those hard-to-reach places that need a bit of freshness. 

A toilet paper roll refresher gives your bathroom an extra boost of freshness. Using a dropper, add 4-5 drops of your favourite essential oil to the interior of the roll. Each time you spin the roll the scent will be released to freshen up your bathroom.   

Blast away nasty odours. Take 5 drops your favourite essential oil and mix it with water in a 2-ounce spray bottle. Shake and spray anywhere that smells—laundry, shoes, rubbish, the kids’ rooms, etc. Or soak a cotton ball and place it at the bottom of your rubbish bin or overnight in trainers to eliminate unwanted odours.

For a hack with your hoover, put 1-2 drops of your favourite Forever Essential Oil inside your vacuum bag or filter and freshen the house while you clean.  Or add a few drops to a tissue, tear into small pieces on various parts of the carpet and then hoover it up, as this will leave a lingering scent. 

Here are a few more simple hacks:

  • Tap a little of Forever Essential Oils Lavender right into the wood shelves in your closet or the drawers in your dresser.
  • Fill a microwave-safe bowl filled with water and four drops of Forever Essential Oil Lemon and “steam clean” your microwave.  Place on high for 10 minutes, then wipe down the inside.   
  • Put a couple of drops of Forever Essential Lavender onto a tissue and tuck it inside your pillowcase.

Healthy habits for the New Year

Yes, it’s December already! And lots of people will be looking forward to a better 2021.

Have you been thinking about your lifestyle? You’re not alone – re-setting goals, healthy habits, positivity – they’re all big topics at the moment online, along with positivity, at home, and self-love.

So here are some ideas for new healthy habits in 2021:

  • don’t plan lots huge changes, small steps over the year is the way to go. Don’t try and change everything in January!
  • sleep more. Lack of sleep is really common and causes lots of problems including stress, anxiety, weakened immune system, weight gain and so on. Most people need at least seven hours. You know what to do – a calm cool bedroom, no screen time just before bed. And a few minutes earlier every night.
  • drink less alcohol and more water. You don’t have to give it up (unless that’s part of your plan). But maybe think about a dry month? Or one week per month?
  • move more. Little and often is best, get up from the desk, go out for a walk. You will actually be more productive and get some great ideas. Walk, run, cycle, dance – whatever gives you joy, but move more.
  • take some time. For your friends, your family, yourself. A bit of self-care goes a long way.
  • make small changes in your diet. If you can make a huge commitment and stick with it, fine. Most of us can’t. But it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. A few more fruits and vegetables, slightly smaller portions, a good healthy breakfast, maybe replace a meal with a delicious protein shake – get creative, add in your favourite ingredients. Lots of great ideas here: Plan your meals, you’ll be less likely to grab any old rubbish!
