Five key questions

If you’re going to give up more of your time in exchange for money, it’s important to have a clear picture of what you want:

Why?

  • Are you saving for something special – a house deposit, new car, trip of a lifetime?
  • Do you want to do more fun stuff? Have more freedom? Take more family trips?
  • Are you struggling to pay off debt?
  • Are you starting a Plan B for your future?

How much money?

  • How much do you actually want or need to earn? How much will deliver your Why?
  • How quickly do you need to start earning? Can you take a long view, or is it urgent?
  • Do you need a regular income from your side hustle? Or can it be something more casual?

How much time?

  • How much time can you spend on it every week? Be realistic, you still need to eat and sleep, and have a life, or you probably won’t stick at it for long.
  • Can you commit to that time? Or do you need some flexibility?

Short-term or long-term?

  • Is this a temporary solution to a problem or need?
  • Or is it something you want to build up for your future? Maybe to replace your full-time job?

These are the kind of questions I like to ask people when they join my team to start their own home-based business. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have all the answers right now, but it’s definitely worth asking the questions. So watch out for my next post giving some ideas which will cover all these requirements.

Cut back on sugar this festive season

Christmas. A time for families, festive fun and…indulgence. With so many sweet treats surrounding us at this time of year, we know that it can be a bit of a struggle if you are trying to stay healthy. But fear not, there are plenty of easy ways to make small adjustments to your favourite festive treats, to help you cut back on the sugar, whilst still enjoying the yuletide yumminess.

Canapés and nibbles

The party season is upon us, and no social gathering is complete without a spread of sumptuous party food and delectable nibbles.  Although most are savoury, ready-made canapés can contain hefty doses of sugar, additives and preservatives, so why not ditch the shop-bought sausage rolls and treat your guests to a delightful choice of delicious canapés.  

Sweet swap

Boxes of chocolates and sweets can be just too tempting and easy to graze on, so why not replace them with a healthier treat? Fill a large decorative bowl with an assortment of dried fruits and nuts, including; almonds, walnuts, dried apricots, figs and cranberries for a natural dose of sugary goodness, that looks beautifully festive too!

Switch to dark chocolate 

And if you still can’t resist getting your chocolate fix, satisfy your sweet tooth by substituting milk chocolate for dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa). With its rich, intense flavour, dark chocolate contains a higher percentage of cocoa solids, and much less added sugar than milk chocolate. Raw cocoa also contains high levels of iron, magnesium and antioxidants, making it the perfect festive indulgence. 

Cut back on sugary festive drinks 

When you think of sugary festive treats you probably focus on baked goods, sweets and puddings, but it’s easy to forget that all those delicious holiday themed sweet drinks are high in sugar too. However, you don’t have to miss out on the festive beverages; to add a little sparkle to your soiree, why not try our Cranberry Sparkles Mocktail? Made using our Forever Aloe Berry Nectar this festive drink contains lots of vitamin C, which contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

Serves 1

½ Lime

Several Mint leaves

50ml Forever Aloe Berry Nectar

150ml Cranberry Juice

Soda Water, to taste

Ice

Fresh Cranberries, for garnish

Method: 

Cut one thin slice from the widest section of your lime. Then squeeze the juice from the rest of the half into a small jug. Add the mint leaves and a small amount of Forever Aloe Berry Nectar to the jug and muddle together. A good way to do this is to use the end of a rolling pin. Pour this mixture into a tall glass.

Add a handful of ice to the glass and pour over the remaining Forever Aloe Berry Nectar and the cranberry juice. Mix carefully with a spoon. 

Top up with soda water, then serve with fresh cranberries and your lime slice on the side of the glass.

FOREVER – AN EDUCATION

Jo joined the company in January 2013 while she was five months pregnant with her second daughter…

I had responded to a Facebook post from an old friend who was looking for people to work alongside her in a new business venture. She sent me a link to a live webinar and I was so excited by what I saw and heard that I arranged to meet her for coffee and joined the business there and then! 

My background is in education and I was a secondary school English teacher for over twelve years. I loved my job but my reason for joining the business was to earn £200-300 extra a month to help me extend my maternity leave. I didn’t know if I had the time or the skills, I definitely didn’t know anything about Aloe Vera, but I got to work anyway and absorbed the training and support on offer until I felt confident. It took me just three months to reach the income level I needed, just in time for the birth of my daughter in May! 

I was promoted again whilst on maternity leave and achieved my goal of having almost a full year off with my daughter. I returned to work but felt disheartened by the amount of time my career was taking up, keeping me away from my young daughters. I knew that I had the perfect vehicle to help me achieve a better work life balance in Forever. I knew that I wanted to be the mum at the school gates, and I also wanted to be able to help my parents out more as they were experiencing different health challenges. In 2015, I took the decision to leave my full-time role. Since then, I have been able to be around for my parents and family much more, do the school run every day, and be at assemblies and sports days, all the things I wasn’t able to do before. 

I continued to teach, very part time, in flexible roles, helping youngsters who cannot attend mainstream schools through illness or social/emotional issues, which I find so rewarding. I spend around 15-20 hours per week on my business; the beauty of which is that much of it is home-based or slotted in to my usual daily activities, so it never feels like work! I also have an awesome team in the UK as well as in two other countries (countries I’ve never even been to!). 

I love using and sharing the products too; my family wouldn’t be without them! I am as excited about Forever now as I was when I joined. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me and my team!
